Amritsar, 20 October, 2024: Amritsar city police have arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling and selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
According to officials, authorities seized 369 bottles, equivalent to 30 boxes, of various brands from Ritik Kamal Kohli, a resident of Rajinder Nagar, and his uncle, Raj Kumar, also known as Babba, from Tehsilpura.
Assistant Police Commissioner (North) Maninderpal Singh stated, “We received information indicating that the accused were selling IMFL throughout the city after illegally procuring it from Chandigarh.”
The police made the arrests following this intelligence, with the seizure taking place at Ritik’s residence, he said.
Moreover, a raid on Raj’s farmhouse led to the confiscation of nine bottles of scotch from various brands, he said further.
An accomplice, identified as Ashu from Rajinder Nagar, remains at large, and officials are actively pursuing leads to apprehend him, he added.
Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) refers to alcoholic beverages produced in India that are made using the same techniques and processes as foreign brands but are manufactured domestically. IMFL typically includes a variety of spirits such as whisky, rum, vodka, and brandy.
The term distinguishes these products from imported foreign liquors. IMFL is often popular in India due to its availability, affordability, and local production. The sale and distribution of IMFL are regulated by the government, and it is subject to licensing requirements and taxation.
