Chandigarh, June 29: Inter-state coordination and asset distribution under historical reorganization acts formed the core of a high-level bilateral meeting held in the joint capital. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria to discuss structural rights and resource sharing between the neighboring states. The dialogue centered on exploring mutual solutions for long-standing territorial and energy parameters outlined under the Punjab Reorganisation Act of 1966.

The state leadership focused on standard population metrics to outline its long-standing infrastructural claims. Chief Minister Sukhu declared that a collaborative approach remains essential to addressing regional growth requirements fairly. He maintained that constructive discussions are the most effective path forward to resolving complex historical arrangements while preserving cooperative federalism.

“Chandigarh was developed from the consolidated resources of undivided Punjab,” Sukhu asserted, adding that a population-based framework could help address pending claims regarding land, assets, and governance structures.

The discussion also encompassed financial and operational adjustments regarding shared power infrastructure managed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board. The visiting delegation noted that previous judicial observations regarding a 7.19 per cent resource share form an important basis for ongoing discussions on power allocations. Furthermore, the operational timeline of the Shanan Hydroelectric Project in Mandi district was reviewed, with both leaders expressing strong confidence that systematic dialogue and mutual respect will lead to a balanced resolution for all regional stakeholders.
