Amritsar, January 14: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced the establishment of the Surjit Patar Centre for Ethical Artificial Intelligence at Guru Nanak Dev University, describing the initiative as a tribute to the late writer.
Mann accentuated the centre’s role in integrating technology with ethical practices.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature cutting-edge resources, with the government pledging full support for its development. In addition, Mann announced an award to honor Dr. Surjit Patar, aimed at encouraging emerging Punjabi writers.
Paying homage to the celebrated author, Mann described Dr. Patar as the “Keats of Punjabi literature,” lauding his profound contributions to language and culture. The Chief Minister highlighted his bond with Patar, underscoring the writer’s influence in fostering communal harmony through literature.
Mann reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting Punjabi language and education, noting over ₹350 crore allocated to Punjabi University, Patiala. He called on students to embrace Punjabi as a connection to their heritage.
On the occasion of Maghi, Mann extended greetings, honoring the sacrifices of the 40 Muktas at Sri Muktsar Sahib. He urged youth to draw inspiration from Punjab’s martyrs and contribute to a harmonious society.
