Chandigarh, 9 October, 2024: The Punjab Cabinet approved the Punjab Custom Milling Policy for the kharif 2024-25 season, enabling the conversion of paddy procured by state agencies—Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, and PSWC—into custom milled rice for delivery to the central pool.
This decision was made during a council of ministers meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday at his official residence in Chandigarh.
According to a spokesperson from the Chief Minister’s office, the kharif marketing season began on October 1, and the paddy procurement process is set to conclude by November 30.
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs issues the custom milling policy annually to facilitate the milling of procured paddy according to Central specifications.
Under the new policy, rice mills will be connected online to the mandis, and the allocation of paddy to rice millers under the Release Order (RO) scheme will be automatically managed through an online portal.
Millers are required to deliver rice from paddy stored until March 31 as per the policy and agreements, he added.
