Chandigarh, March 17 – Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, has demanded the dismissal of Patiala police personnel accused of assaulting Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and his son on March 13.
Calling the incident “shameful,” Bajwa also urged a judicial probe into the matter.
“Despite showing his identity card, Colonel Bath was not only beaten but also verbally abused by Punjab Police personnel outside a roadside eatery. Is this how the Punjab Police, under the AAP-led government, treat those who serve the nation?” Bajwa said.
He accused the AAP government of turning Punjab into a “police state” and warned that “AAP will have to pay the price for giving a free hand to the Punjab Police.”
Criticizing AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Bajwa added, “He just returned from Vipassana meditation—he owes Punjab an explanation for his party’s high-handedness.”
Bajwa threatened to raise the issue in the upcoming Punjab Assembly budget session if the accused officers were not dismissed.
It is pertinent to mention that the accused cops have been suspended.
