Farmers Marching Peacefully to Delhi

Shambhu Border, 8 December 2024: A group of 101 farmers is set to march towards Delhi at 12 noon on Sunday, demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) on crops.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced the decision at a press conference on Saturday evening, stating that despite dedicating the day to potential talks with the Centre, no invitation was received.

Pandher criticized Union ministers for making public statements about being open to discussions but not engaging directly with the farmers.

He underlined that the march would remain peaceful and disciplined, reiterating that the farmers carry no weapons.

Pandher also responded to earlier remarks by BJP leaders suggesting farmers should walk to Delhi to voice their demands.

He said this refusal to permit their march reveals the Centre’s “anti-farmer face.”

He further termed Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s statements on MSP as misleading, accentuating that a legal guarantee for MSP is critical to addressing both the crop cycle issues and groundwater depletion.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, currently on a fast to death at the Khanauri border, continues to inspire the movement despite his deteriorating health.

Pandher vowed that farmers will march forward, risking their lives but maintaining patience in response to any police violence.

“The fight will continue until the last breath,” he affirmed.
