Chandigarh, January 19 — Renowned Sufi singer Lakhwinder Wadali will take the stage at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj on January 23, marking the first performance by a Punjabi artist at this grand cultural event organized by the Government of India.
The Mahakumbh, an ongoing celebration of Indian art and culture, features an illustrious lineup of singers, musicians, and dancers, with events running at the Ganga Pandal until February 24.
Notable performers include Kailash Kher, Kavita Seth, Nitin Mukesh, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, and Kavita Krishnamurthy. Lakhwinder Wadali’s inclusion highlights the growing recognition of Punjabi Sufi music on a national stage.
Previously, Lakhwinder Wadali made history as the first Punjabi artist to perform at Delhi’s Red Fort during Bharat Parv in 2023.
The same year, he became the first Punjabi Sufi singer to hold a live performance in Albury City, Australia.
Belonging to the illustrious Wadali family, known for its dedication to Sufi music, Lakhwinder Wadali carries forward the legacy of his father, Padma Shri Ustad Puran Chand Wadali, and uncle, the late Pyare Lal Wadali, famously known as “The Wadali Brothers.”
A member of the Patiala Gharana, he has earned accolades, including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, for his contribution to Indian classical and Sufi music.
The Mahakumbh’s cultural programs blend music, classical dance, and dramatic arts, offering visitors a rich sense of devotion and artistic excellence.
