Gurugram, May 4: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has greenlit a Rs 9-crore infrastructure project to create the city’s first waterlogging-free “model road.” Rather than conducting standard patchwork repairs, the authority plans to completely redesign the dividing road between Sectors 51 and 52 to establish a world-class transit corridor. This initiative follows specific directives from the Chief Minister to prioritize the strengthening of Gurugram’s core infrastructure.
A primary objective of the redevelopment is the permanent elimination of flooding, a recurring issue that has long troubled local residents during the monsoon season. To achieve this, engineers will install new drainage lines on both sides of the roadway to ensure efficient water runoff. The project also addresses current safety concerns, as the existing stretch is marred by potholes, dust, and broken pavement that frequently contribute to traffic congestion and accidents.
“The road was placed on the priority list following directions from the Chief Minister to strengthen basic infrastructure in the city,” a senior GMDA engineer stated.
The upgraded stretch will incorporate modern urban features, including dedicated footpaths for pedestrians, LED street lighting for enhanced nocturnal safety, and a central green belt for aesthetic improvement. Work is expected to commence within the next few weeks, with a strict six-month completion timeline once the contract is awarded. Officials declared that the overhaul would provide significant relief to commuters from Wazirabad, Kanahi village, and surrounding residential societies.
“The project is not merely a repair job but a complete redesign of the road infrastructure,” GMDA officials affirmed.
