Gurdaspur, June 30: The Qadian constituency will soon be upgraded to a Sub-Division to ensure that residents can access essential public services under a single roof. Speaking at a special public programme in Gurdaspur, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that a modern administrative complex will be constructed to house the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and Assistant Divisional Commissioner (ADC) offices together.
The infrastructural shift forms part of a broader effort to prioritize border regions that were previously overlooked by prior administrations. The Chief Minister stated that the new administrative setup aims to eliminate the daily commuting inconveniences faced by local citizens when dealing with government departments. Gurikbal Singh Mahal has also been appointed as the new Sevadar to monitor the region’s development projects closely.
“Fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people, I have announced that Qadian will now be made a Sub-Division,” Chief Minister Mann affirmed while sharing updates on the initiative. “The SDM, DSP, and ADC offices will function from the same modern building, putting an end to the inconvenience faced by people in accessing government services. To accelerate the constituency’s development, Gurikbal Singh Mahal has been appointed as the new Sevadar.”
The state administration is simultaneously addressing specific rural and agricultural grievances in the sector. The Chief Minister declared that the pending sugarcane dues owed to farmers by the Kiri Sugar Mill would be cleared shortly, alongside ongoing state-wide upgrades such as the rejuvenation of village ponds and the maintenance of over 43,000 kilometres of rural link roads.
The current governance approach focuses heavily on returning public tax revenues directly to the community through welfare initiatives. The Chief Minister maintained that 90% of Punjab households now receive zero electricity bills, while 47 lakh families hold cashless health treatment cards worth up to 10 lakh rupees. Additionally, canal water utilization for irrigation has successfully expanded from 22% to over 80% under the current tenure.
