New Delhi, 14 December 2024: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking an urgent meeting to address the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital.
In his letter, Kejriwal raised concerns about rising crime, highlighting that Delhi now tops the list among 19 metropolitan cities for crimes against women and murder cases.
He expressed alarm over the escalating activities of extortion gangs, frequent bomb threats to schools and airports, and a staggering 350% surge in drug-related crimes.
“Delhi is being referred to as the crime capital in the country and abroad,” he wrote, adding that over the past six months, more than 300 schools, colleges, 100 hospitals, malls, and airports have received bomb threats.
Kejriwal called for immediate action, underlining that Delhi’s law and order fall under the jurisdiction of the central government.
Kejriwal expressed deep concern for the safety of Delhi’s residents and urged the Home Minister to prioritize this issue.
A response from Amit Shah on the requested meeting is awaited.
