Chandigarh, 18 October, 2024: A young man was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon late Tuesday night in New Indira Colony, Manimajra, a small town and a suburban area located on the outskirts of Chandigarh, India. It falls under the Union Territory of Chandigarh and is situated near the city’s northern and eastern borders, close to Panchkula in Haryana.
According to reports, the incident took place at around 11:20 p.m. when the victim, identified as Rahul, had gone to use a public toilet near his home. His father, Ramesh, shared that the assailant, named Madu from Model Town, Manimajra, launched a violent attack on Rahul with a dagger, seemingly with the intent to kill him.
Ramesh, who was nearby repairing their slum with other family members, rushed to the toilet after hearing Rahul’s desperate cries. Upon arrival, he saw Madu repeatedly striking Rahul on the head with the dagger. According to Ramesh, Madu shouted menacingly during the attack, saying, “Today, I will erase your name and trace.” Ramesh quickly intervened and raised an alarm, causing Madu to flee the scene, still holding the weapon.
Rahul, severely injured with deep head wounds, was immediately transported to the civil hospital in Manimajra by a neighbor who offered his e-rickshaw. After receiving first aid, he was referred to GMCH-32 for further treatment due to the seriousness of his injuries. Doctors noted that the wounds on Rahul’s head were severe and caused by repeated strikes with the dagger.
Ramesh revealed that the tension between his son and Madu had escalated from an argument the previous day, which may have triggered this violent act. “Madu ambushed my son and attempted to kill him,” Ramesh said, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the attack.
The police were informed of the incident around 11:26 p.m. through a call to the control room. Authorities have since registered a case under Section 109, 351(1)/2 of the BNS at the IT Park police station, and the investigation is ongoing.
