Panchkula, April 16: — A theft at the civil hospital in Sector 6 led to the disappearance of prescription medicines worth approximately ₹6,000, including drugs used in psychiatric care and addiction treatment, hospital officials said Tuesday.

Hospital staff discovered the break-in early in the morning when they found the pharmacy room’s glass panel shattered and the door ajar. A subsequent inventory revealed that at least 2,150 tablets had gone missing, including 530 Alprax 0.5 mg, 420 Clonazepam 1 mg, and 1,200 Tramadol 100 mg.

“These medications are sensitive in nature and primarily used in psychiatric settings or de-addiction programs,” a senior doctor at the hospital told The Himalayan Post, adding that the drugs can be misused if they fall into the wrong hands.

Hospital authorities promptly filed a police complaint, and an FIR was registered under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The complaint was lodged by pharmacist Nitin Rana, who is coordinating with police investigators.

Panchkula police have initiated an inquiry and are examining CCTV footage for leads. Hospital sources said five to six guards are generally deployed on night duty. “All personnel on shift at the time will be questioned,” said a police official familiar with the case.

Officials at the hospital said internal security measures are also being reviewed.
