Bathinda, June 24: The Punjab government’s transparent employment policy has reportedly begun drawing youth back from overseas, marking a shift in the state’s migration patterns. This development was highlighted during a state event in Bathinda, where official appointments were formalized for hundreds of new power sector inductees, celebrating a broader milestone in public sector recruitment.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann handed over appointment letters to 665 newly recruited candidates in the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on Tuesday. “The era of cash payments and favouritism has ended in Punjab. Today, youth are getting jobs solely on the basis of merit and eligibility,” the Chief Minister declared. He maintained that due to the transparent recruitment process adopted by the state government, not even a single appointment has been challenged in court.

The state administration asserted that its recruitment drive has reached unprecedented numbers over recent years, establishing a new benchmark for public appointments. Mann stated that the state has created a record by providing 68,268 government jobs in just four-and-a-half years, completely ending the era of cash-for-jobs and recommendations. He affirmed that this clean system has motivated several individuals who had previously relocated abroad to return to their home state for stable careers.

Beyond employment, the state leadership shared significant policy updates concerning employee welfare and sectoral advancements. The Chief Minister declared that after completion of their probation period, women employees will be posted within a 40-kilometre radius of their homes to maintain family cohesion and work-life balance. He asserted that public tax money is being spent directly on infrastructure, noting that educational reforms have allowed Punjab to surpass Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi to secure the top position in primary and middle-school education according to NITI Aayog figures.
