No ‘Foreign Spark’ Before Parliament Session, Says PM

New Delhi, 31 January 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday remarked that, for the first time in over a decade, there was no external controversy or alleged conspiracy surfacing ahead of a Parliament session.

“This is the first time in more than ten years that no spark has come from foreign shores on the eve of our Parliament session. No attempt at mischief, no external conspiracy,” Modi said in his customary address before the Budget session began.

His remarks appeared to reference past instances where issues linked to foreign reports or allegations surfaced before Parliament sessions.

These included the now-defunct US short-seller Hindenburg’s accusations against industrialist Gautam Adani, concerns over the Pegasus surveillance software, and earlier debates around the Rafale deal with France.

Modi said this absence of external controversy was notable, suggesting that no such attempt had emerged from any foreign quarter.

Turning to the session’s significance, the prime minister said it would serve as a foundation for India’s aspirations of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He urged the country’s youth to actively participate in this vision, drawing a parallel to their role in the freedom movement.
