New Delhi, Dec. 26 – On Thursday, the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Awards were presented at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, in celebration of Brave Children’s Day.

President Draupadi Murmu conferred the awards to 17 children from 14 states and union territories, comprising 7 boys and 10 girls, across seven categories including art and culture, bravery, innovation, science and technology, social work, sports, and the environment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also graced the ceremony, where he inaugurated the Suposhit Panchayat Scheme and flagged off a ceremonial march past.

Addressing the event, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, highlighted the program’s significance. Approximately 3,500 attendees, including awardees and dignitaries, were present.

The Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award, initiated in 1996 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, honors children aged 5 to 18 for exceptional achievements in various fields.

Originally covering six categories — art and culture, bravery, innovation, education, social service, and sports — the awards have since expanded to include science and technology.

In 2018, achievements in bravery were officially recognized, further solidifying the award’s role in encouraging young citizens. These awardees also participate in the Republic Day parade, showcasing their dedication and achievements to the nation.
