Chandigarh, 21 January 2025: Punjab is set to enforce stricter traffic regulations with the introduction of an online challaning system starting January 26, 2025. Initially, the system will be launched in Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Amritsar, before its eventual implementation across the state.
The traffic police trialed the e-challan process in December, issuing 452 e-challans during December and January. Advanced cameras will now monitor and record traffic violations such as signal jumping, stop line violations, and driving without helmets.

According to Additional Director General (ADG) Traffic S. Rai, challans will be delivered to the registered address of vehicle owners and can only be paid online.
Failure to pay will result in the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) being locked on the online portal, blocking RC-related services such as transfer or renewal at RTO offices.
