Chandigarh, July 3: The Punjab Government has cleared a major administrative proposal to expand public service delivery by recruiting 619 female multipurpose health workers and reviving key positions within the Industries Department. Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema authorized the hiring drive to reinforce grassroots medical infrastructure and stabilize commercial administration across the state. The administration will absorb an annual financial commitment of over sixteen crore rupees to support the incoming medical personnel during their probationary periods.
To prevent administrative delays, the state has adjusted its hiring protocols by transferring the medical recruitment process away from the Subordinate Services Selection Board. The entire appointment drive will instead be managed directly by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, following a formal inter-departmental agreement. This structural shift is designed to bypass prolonged timelines and expedite the deployment of frontline staff to local clinics.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema declared that the recruitment framework combines fresh appointments with internal promotion channels. “The health workers under this initiative will be placed in the pay scale of Rs. 21,700 – 69,100 at Level-3, in strict conformance with the newly enacted Punjab Health and Family Welfare Technical (Group-C) Service (First Amendment) Rules, 2025,” the Minister stated. He affirmed that the strategy includes converting hundreds of eligible local health workers into formal positions while reviving lapsed posts through cabinet channels.
The administrative clearances also address severe staffing shortages within the industrial sector following previous downsizing measures. The Department of Industries has received official authorization to advertise 97 crucial positions within the current financial year to protect public-facing operations. Alongside the immediate hiring permissions, the state has directed the department to conduct a modernized restructuring review to align its personnel with contemporary governance demands.
