Shimla, November 29, 2024 – The Meteorological Center in Shimla has predicted rain and snowfall in five districts of Himachal Pradesh from November 29 to December 3, owing to western disturbances. Higher areas of Chamba, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, and Kinnaur are likely to experience precipitation during this period. However, the weather in other districts is expected to remain clear until December 4.
Increased cold conditions persist in the state, with Tabo recording a minimum temperature of -11.1°C, the lowest so far this winter. Moderate fog enveloped Mandi and Bilaspur on Friday morning, while Shimla witnessed clear skies, though mornings and evenings remain frigid.
Record Low Rainfall in November
Himachal Pradesh has recorded its lowest November rainfall in eight years, receiving only 0.2 mm of precipitation by November 29. This marks a 99% deficit compared to the average of 19.7 mm for the month. Drought-like conditions prevail, with 98% less rainfall recorded from October 1 to November 28.
Notably, districts like Shimla, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, Sirmaur, and Solan saw no rainfall during this period. The last similar dry November was in 2016. Over the past 70 years, seven Novembers have reported no rain, underlining the unusual weather trend.
Despite the dry spell, weather experts anticipate clearer conditions across the state starting December 4.
