Chandigarh, November 25, 2024: Skyrocketing vegetable prices in local mandis have hit the common man hard, leaving many struggling to manage their kitchen budgets. Amid existing inflationary pressures, the steep rise in vegetable costs has deepened concerns for households across the region.
Currently, cauliflower and tomatoes are priced at ₹60 per kg, ghee pumpkin at ₹40 per kg, capsicum at ₹100 per kg, and cucumber at ₹50 per kg. Other staples like radish and bitter gourd are selling at ₹20 and ₹50 per kg, respectively, while green chili and carrots stand at ₹60 per kg each. High-demand items like ginger, garlic, and lemon are priced at ₹100, ₹400, and ₹120 per kg, respectively, with mushrooms reaching ₹200 per kg.
Local residents voiced their frustration, citing the financial strain caused by persistent price hikes. “Inflation was already burdensome, and now the soaring vegetable prices are making it harder to manage daily expenses,” a resident remarked.
Vegetable vendors also expressed concerns, attributing the high prices to supply challenges. “The steep rates are discouraging customers, and sales have dropped significantly,” said a seller, highlighting the market’s sluggishness.
As prices continue to surge, both buyers and sellers are calling for immediate measures to stabilize the market.
