Chennai, April 15: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin convened an emergency meeting of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs on Wednesday to mobilize a state-wide protest against the central government’s proposed delimitation amendment. The Chief Minister declared that the move to redraw constituencies based on more recent population figures represents a “massive historic injustice” directed at Tamil Nadu and other southern states.

Stalin urged citizens and party supporters to hoist black flags at homes and public spaces across the state as a mark of opposition. He stated that the legislative package, which includes increasing Lok Sabha seats to 850, would unfairly diminish the political representation of states that have successfully implemented development and population control measures.

“Is punishment being meted out to Tamil Nadu and the southern states for the crime of striving for India’s growth?” Stalin maintained in a statement shared on social media. He asserted that the proposed bill, which is expected to be introduced in Parliament shortly, threatens the federal balance of the country.

The meeting comes as southern leaders voice growing anxiety over the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” link to delimitation. Stalin affirmed that he is coordinating with representatives from various other states to form a united front against the proposal. The Chief Minister declared that his opposition stems from his responsibility as a “self-respecting Tamil” and the leader of the DMK.

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, the DMK leadership has accelerated its campaign against the central policy. Stalin asserted that there is a “conspiracy” at play to widen the representation gap between the northern and southern regions of India, vowing that the state will not tolerate the erosion of its democratic weight.
