Lucknow, June 19: Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the Uttar Pradesh government is steadily enhancing the Balvatika system to lay a solid foundation for primary education. With enhanced infrastructure and the introduction of ECCE teachers, the government is now prioritizing the provision of high-quality child-friendly educational materials in every Balvatika.
As part of this initiative, Balvatikas across the state are receiving Educator Guides, Bal Workbooks, Big Books, and Comprehensive Progress Cards to help children start their learning journey through play, activities, and engaging experiences.
The Yogi government views early childhood education as more than just the start of formal schooling; it sees it as a vital stage that readies children for school life.
Aligned with this vision, Balvatikas are being provided with educational resources designed to captivate children through storytelling, visuals, dialogue, vibrant colors, interactive activities, and creative expression. The goal is not to add more academic pressure on children, but to make learning feel natural, enjoyable, and rooted in experience.
The government is offering a full educational package for Balvatikas, which includes the Balvatika Educator Guide, children’s workbooks, Big Books, and Comprehensive Progress Cards. These materials are designed to support teachers in activity-based learning and provide children with chances to develop language, cognitive skills, and social abilities through engaging activities.
To guarantee timely delivery, QR code tracking along with the ‘Kitab Vitaran App’ is being implemented, allowing oversight at the district, block, and Balvatika levels.
The educational materials for Balvatikas have been created following NCERT guidelines, the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS and the vision outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
Designing the content has involved careful consideration of children’s age, ease of use, language, illustrations, font size, and the type of activities included.
The goal is to offer children a learning environment that is suitable for their developmental stage, centered on play, and filled with engaging activities.
The main goal of the National Education Policy is to support the all-around development of children and cultivate a positive outlook toward education, and these resources assist in turning that vision into reality.
The educational materials have been created with an emphasis on fostering children’s overall development. They will foster physical, cognitive, language, social-emotional, and creative and aesthetic development. Using illustrations, hands-on activities, storytelling, coloring, matching games, conversations, and creative projects, children’s curiosity, imagination, and learning skills will be stimulated and strengthened.
The Yogi government’s Balvatika initiative embodies the conviction that high-quality early childhood education goes beyond physical infrastructure, furniture, or staffing, and demands a fully integrated educational ecosystem. With the help of trained ECCE teachers, child-friendly learning resources, technology-enabled monitoring, and activity-based teaching approaches, the government is striving to make children’s first school experience enjoyable, inclusive, and meaningful.
This initiative will enhance school readiness and lay a solid groundwork for the NIPUN Bharat Mission, foundational literacy and numeracy, and wider reforms in basic education.
