Sonipat, December 15, 2024 – The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Haryana Women’s Commission Vice Chairperson Sonia Agarwal and her personal assistant, Kulbir, on bribery charges involving a Rs 1 lakh payment.
Both suspects were taken into custody by the Jind ACB team and later transported to the ACB office in Sonipat.
The arrests stemmed from a complaint lodged by Anil, a resident of Julana in Jind district. Anil, a JBT teacher, alleged that Kulbir demanded a bribe on behalf of Sonia Agarwal to resolve a marital dispute between him and his wife, a Haryana Police Sub-Inspector. The case, filed with the Women’s Commission, was scheduled for a hearing before Agarwal on December 12 in Sonipat.
The ACB organized a sting operation after Anil agreed to deliver the bribe. On Saturday, ACB officials caught Kulbir red-handed near Jindal Park in Hisar as he accepted the Rs 1 lakh payment.
ACB Jind DSP Kamaljit Singh led the operation, recovering the bribe money at the scene.
Sonia Agarwal was apprehended later that night at her residence in Pratap Colony.
Both suspects were initially held at the Mahila police station before being transferred to the Sonipat ACB office under DSP Vipin Kadian’s supervision.
The ACB confirmed that Sonia Agarwal and Kulbir will be presented in court today.
