New Delhi, March 7 — Content creators behind the controversial YouTube show India’s Got Latent appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW), expressing regret over their remarks and vowing to be more mindful of their language, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said on Friday.
YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina—who hosts the show—Apoorva Mukhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani were among those who faced the panel. Producers Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, along with lawyers representing Jaspreet Singh and Chanchlani, also attended the hearing, sources cited in PTI reported.
The controversy stemmed from statements made during an episode where Allahbadia’s remarks on parents and sex, along with comments by Mukhija, triggered widespread criticism.
NCW: ‘They Would Think Before Speaking’
Addressing the media, Rahatkar called the language used in the show “absolutely indecent” and unacceptable.
“The Commission will never accept such obscene language. It is neither acceptable to society nor to us. We took immediate cognizance and issued notices,” she said.
According to Rahatkar, the content creators admitted their mistake before the panel. “They expressed regret and said they should not have used such words. All of them apologized and assured that they won’t repeat such mistakes,” she said.
A video from the briefing, shared by ANI, captured Rahatkar stating that the creators pledged to be mindful of their words to avoid hurting anyone. “They said this was the first and last time,” she added.
“Ranveer Allahbadia and others acknowledged that their words could not be taken back, but they assured that moving forward, they would be cautious and speak with respect toward women,” Rahatkar said.
SC Grants Protection Amid FIRs
Multiple FIRs were registered against Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, over his comments on Samay Raina’s show. The Supreme Court, while granting him interim protection from arrest, described his remarks as “vulgar” and said he had a “dirty mind” that brought shame to society.
