Chandigarh, March 19, 2025 — The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a deed writer and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in separate bribery cases, as part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign.
Anupam Sharma, a deed writer in Fatehgarh Sahib, was arrested for allegedly demanding a ₹5.5 lakh bribe on behalf of Sub-Registrar, Bassi Pathana.
“The arrest followed an online complaint on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line,” a VB spokesperson said.
The bribe was allegedly sought for executing property registrations.
Following verification, Sharma was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act and will be produced in court tomorrow. The Sub-Registrar’s role is under investigation.
In a separate case, ASI Sarabjeet Singh, posted at police station Islamabad, was caught accepting a ₹3,000 bribe.
The complainant, from Gurdaspur’s Batala tehsil, alleged that Singh demanded the bribe to release his car seized as case property.
“After verifying the evidence, the accused was arrested and booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the spokesperson said. Singh will also be presented before the court tomorrow.
The VB has urged citizens to report corruption via the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line at 9501 200 200.
