Gurdaspur, April 28 — Villages along the Gurdaspur border have been placed on high alert, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant following security advisories from the Border Security Force (BSF).
Announcements made at the village Gurdwara Sahib called on residents to stay alert during the night and directed the youth to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police or BSF patrols.
Farmers were also advised to harvest their crops quickly, especially in fields lying across the barbed wire fencing.
“The BSF jawans visited and warned us to be cautious,” said farmer Gurnam Singh. “They told us to finish harvesting near the border as soon as possible.”
Villagers expressed growing fear about the uncertainty in the region. “If a war starts, we will be the first to suffer,” said Kultar Singh.
“Where will we go with our children and animals?”
Nishan Singh, another farmer, said the community is deeply worried but still hopes for peace.
“We want no war between India and Pakistan. We want to live in peace,” he said.
The heightened alert comes after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that killed around 34 civilians, fueling daily protests across India against Pakistan and terrorism.
Tensions between the two countries have continued to escalate, with India ordering Pakistani nationals to leave and suspending trade ties.
Officials said they are closely monitoring the border situation while villagers brace for possible fallout if tensions worsen.
