South Africa’s WTC Dream Begins – Squad Announced!

London , May 13: South Africa has announced its 15-member squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia. The team led by Temba Bavuma has reached the WTC final for the first time. The title match will be played at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground on June 11.

Ngidi’s return to the team

The Proteas have been strengthened by the return of Lungi Ngidi, who was out of most of the domestic summer season due to a back injury. Ngidi was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2025. South Africa has made only two changes to its team from the last Test series against Pakistan. Lungi Ndigi has been included in place of young player Kwena Mphaka, while top order batsman Matthew Breetzke has not been included.

South African stars may be missing from IPL

The South African team will assemble on May 31 and will play practice matches against Zimbabwe from June 3 to 6 before leaving for London on June 7. The IPL final will be played on June 3. In such a situation, some stars including Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans) and Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals) may miss the practice match against Zimbabwe if they stay for the entire IPL. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has not yet clarified whether the players selected in the WTC final team will be available for the IPL playoffs or not.
