MOHALI, June 4– Two fatal road accidents involving heavy trucks claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and a truck driver in separate incidents reported in Mohali and Lalru, police said on Wednesday.
In the first case, Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Rajpura in Patiala district, died on the spot after a speeding truck rammed into his motorcycle on the Landran-Banur road, near Saneta bus stand. The victim was on his way to Mohali for work, riding separately from his uncle, who was accompanying him on another bike.
According to the uncle’s statement to police, a high-speed truck (registration number HP24-F-7477) struck Arshdeep from behind. The collision hurled him into a roadside pole before he was run over by the truck, causing fatal head injuries.
“The truck driver, who identified himself as Satish Kumar when initially confronted, fled the scene moments later,” the complainant told police.
Arshdeep was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6, Mohali, but doctors declared him brought dead. Based on the uncle’s complaint, police have booked the absconding driver under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving), and 324 (property damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In a separate incident near Kolu Majra village in Lalru, truck driver Bharat lost his life after crashing into a cement-laden vehicle that allegedly braked suddenly on the highway.
Bharat and his brother were transporting goods from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, to Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, when the accident occurred. Police said the truck ahead, driven by a man identified as Sukhvir, stopped abruptly, giving Bharat no time to respond.
The impact left Bharat critically injured. His brother rushed him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The accused driver fled the scene. Police have registered a case under Sections 106, 281, and 324(4) of BNS and are continuing efforts to trace both absconding drivers.
