SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH NAGAR/JALANDHAR, June 14 — In a bid to curb illegal mining, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh on Friday instructed all sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) to form dedicated monitoring committees for closer surveillance in vulnerable areas.
Chairing a meeting of the district-level monitoring committee, Singh said the new panels will be tasked with conducting regular inspections of mining-prone zones to detect and deter illegal activity. “The SDMs have been directed to submit detailed reports on their visits and action taken in case of any violations,” the DC said.
He also reviewed the availability of suitable government land for legal mining and instructed officials to initiate the process of obtaining no objection certificates (NOCs) so that regulated mining can begin on approved sites.
Meanwhile, the Jalandhar district administration is stepping up its technological capabilities to streamline legal mining operations. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal announced the procurement of a new Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), aimed at ensuring accurate demarcation of mining sites.
Aggarwal also reviewed progress on various infrastructure and social development initiatives — including the upgrade of the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre, construction of Dhogri Road, a cricket beat box at BMC Chowk, and new roads and libraries in government schools. He directed concerned departments to submit utilisation certificates for completed projects without delay.
