Panipat, July 7: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped inside an empty compartment of a stationary train in Haryana’s Panipat and later thrown onto railway tracks in Sonepat, resulting in the loss of her leg, police said on Monday.
The woman, who had been reported missing since June 24, was found injured and hospitalised. Her husband told police that she had left home after a quarrel and had previously returned on her own in similar situations. A missing persons report was lodged on June 26.
According to Quilla Police Station House Officer (SHO) Shri Niwas, the woman told investigators she had been sitting at a railway station when a man approached her, claiming to have been sent by her husband. He led her to an empty coach of a stationary train, where he raped her. Two more men later joined him and also assaulted her, she alleged.
The woman said the accused later took her to Sonepat, where they pushed her onto the railway tracks. A passing train ran over her leg, resulting in a traumatic amputation. She was subsequently admitted to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
“A zero FIR under gangrape charges has been registered and forwarded to the Panipat Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation,” SHO Niwas said.
Inspector Rajesh, the station house officer of GRP Panipat, confirmed that the zero FIR was received on Sunday evening. “Investigation is underway, and we are verifying all claims made by the survivor,” he said.
A zero FIR allows for immediate registration of serious offenses irrespective of jurisdiction and is transferred to the appropriate police station for further action.
The horrific incident has sparked outrage in the region, with calls for swift identification and arrest of the accused. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby stations and coordinating with railway authorities as part of the probe.
