LALRU, July 9— A man in his early 40s was killed in a hit-and-run accident late Sunday night near Malikpur village in Lalru, Mohali after being struck by an unidentified heavy vehicle. Police said the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The victim, who remains unidentified, was walking along the roadside when a truck or similar large vehicle hit him and sped off without stopping, according to initial findings by the Lalru police.
“No one has come forward to identify the deceased. We’ve searched the nearby areas but haven’t been able to trace his family,” said Investigating Officer Jagtaar Singh. The body has been sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case under Section 281 (rash driving on a public way) and Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Lalru police station.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the vehicle and the driver. “We are scanning CCTV footage from the area and speaking to local residents and eyewitnesses to identify the vehicle involved,” Singh added.
The incident has once again raised concerns over poor visibility, lack of street lighting, and the vulnerability of pedestrians along rural highways.
