Chandigarh, August 24: The Punjab Government has raised the monthly pension for freedom fighters and their families to Rs 11,000, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of those who contributed to India’s independence.
Freedom Fighters Minister Mohinder Bhagat said the move, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aims to recognise the sacrifices of the state’s independence heroes.
“Earlier, the pension was Rs 9,400 per month. The Mann Government increased it to Rs 11,000 to further enhance the dignity and respect of these families,” he noted.
Mr. Bhagat said that supporting freedom fighters and their dependents remains a priority for the state. “The Punjab Government stands shoulder to shoulder with them at all times,” he added.
Highlighting the broader vision of the Chief Minister, the Minister said, “Serving and honouring freedom fighters is one of our foremost duties. These sons of the soil, who contributed immensely to the freedom struggle, are a source of inspiration for all of us. Paying them respect is a matter of pride.”
He further recalled the crucial role Punjabis played in securing India’s independence. “It was their courage and sacrifices that freed our nation from foreign domination. Their legacy will continue to inspire patriotism and love for the country among generations to come,” Mr. Bhagat remarked.
The increased pension reflects the Mann Government’s ongoing focus on social welfare and recognition of historical contributions. By enhancing the financial support for freedom fighters and their families, the state aims to ensure that their dedication and bravery are remembered and valued.
According to officials, the revised pension will directly benefit hundreds of freedom fighters and their dependents across Punjab, strengthening the government’s message of respect and gratitude toward those who fought for the nation.
