Cold wave tightens grip on Himachal

Shimla, Nov 15, 2025: The cold wave sweeping across Himachal Pradesh intensified over the past 24 hours as several higher-altitude regions recorded sharp drops in minimum temperatures, weather officials said on Friday. Many areas in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts slipped well below freezing, becoming the coldest parts of the state.

According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures dipped by 2°C to 6°C at various locations, settling between –6°C and 12°C across the state. Tabo village in Lahaul and Spiti remained the coldest spot, recording a minimum of –6.6°C. Keylong and Kukumseri also reported freezing conditions at –2.9°C and –4.1°C respectively. In contrast, Una continued to be the warmest, touching a maximum of 27°C.

Daytime weather, however, stayed largely clear. Most regions experienced bright sunshine, offering temporary respite from the biting chill. The Meteorological Department noted that the state is likely to witness dry weather until November 21, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to remain within the normal range during this period.

Among major towns, Shimla recorded a minimum of 9°C and Dharamsala 9.8°C. Manali shivered at 2.7°C, Solan at 3°C, and Bhuntar at 3.1°C. In the mid-hills, Solan, Mandi (5.7°C), Hamirpur (5.8°C) and Kangra (5.8°C) saw a noticeable drop. High-altitude stations reported colder nights, with Kalpa settling at 1°C, Narkanda at 4.8°C and Kufri at 7.5°C.

Bilaspur (8.6°C), Nahan (8.4°C), Sundernagar (4.1°C), Kasauli (11.4°C) and Paonta Sahib (12°C) also reported dips in night temperatures. The Met department stated that conditions are likely to remain stable, with no major weather disturbance forecast for the coming days.
