Warring alleges misuse of police during nomination filing

Chandigarh, Dec. 4 — Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of using police and administrative measures to pressure opposition candidates during the filing of Zila Parishad and Block Samiti nominations.

“This only shows the writing on the wall that the AAP has lost ground and realized it too,” Warring said in a statement. “That is why it is resorting to such attempts to misuse police and official machinery.”

Warring said reports from multiple districts suggested opposition candidates were discouraged or delayed from filing papers. “Despite this, most of our candidates managed to submit their nominations,” he said.

He claimed “everything was being captured on cameras” and added that the actions had raised questions about the ruling party’s confidence. “If the government is certain of its performance, why would it need to use such force?” he said. “It reveals a sense of panic and frustration.”

On a widely circulated audio clip purportedly involving Patiala Police officials discussing ways to block opposition nominations, Warring told reporters he could not confirm whether the clip was real or AI-generated. “But the use of police and government machinery has become routine,” he said, adding that “what is being discussed in the clip is already happening across Punjab and is being recorded by common people.”

He alleged that the husband of a Congress candidate was taken away by an area SHO and “kept moving from one place to another” before being “illegally detained for the entire night.” He said every officer involved “will be held accountable.”

Warring also linked the issue to broader public concerns. “Law and order is deteriorating because the police are occupied with these tasks instead of focusing on controlling crime,” he said. “But this too shall pass, and everyone involved will face questions.”
