Moga, December 6 — An NRI allegedly shot his nephew dead and then ran his vehicle over the body during a land dispute in Punjab’s Machhike village on Saturday, police said. The accused, Bahadur Singh Sekhon, a US citizen, was arrested after villagers overpowered him when he tried to flee.
Police said the confrontation broke out in the fields, where Sekhon and his nephew Deep Singh had been arguing over land ownership. “The accused fired multiple rounds from his licensed revolver, and one bullet struck the victim in the forehead,” DSP Anbar Ali said. Deep Singh died on the spot.
Witnesses told police that Sekhon then drove his vehicle over the body before rushing home to retrieve his passport. Villagers surrounded the house and blocked his escape until officers reached the scene.
SHO Nihal Singh Wala said a formal investigation is underway. Deep Singh, son of late former sarpanch Bahadur Singh Sekhon, worked as a commission agent. The accused, who also operated in the commission agency business, frequently traveled between India and the US. The body has been sent for postmortem.
