Mohali girls join Indian Air Force as Flying Officers

MOHALI, Dec. 13 — Two former students of Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls in SAS Nagar (Mohali) have been commissioned as Flying Officers in the Indian Air Force, marking a proud moment for the institute.

Flying Officers Charanpreet Kaur and Mehak Dahiya successfully passed out from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal (Hyderabad), during a ceremonial parade reviewed by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM.

Charanpreet Kaur, whose father Harminder Singh Banwait is a driver from Kurali, has joined the administrative branch, while Mehak Dahiya, daughter of government teacher Anil Kumar Dahiya of Mohali, has been inducted into the accounts branch.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora congratulated the officers on their achievement. “Their success reflects the high standards of training at Mai Bhago AFPI,” he said.

The Punjab government had established an NDA Preparatory Wing for girls at Mai Bhago AFPI in July 2023. The institute inaugurated a new block in November 2025, named after Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw. Mai Bhago AFPI Director Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd), expressed happiness over the induction of the two students into the Air Force.
