Outside Vehicles Barred From Srinagar Core

Srinagar, Dec. 25 — Vehicles from outside Srinagar district will no longer be allowed to enter the city centre as part of stepped-up measures to decongest roads and regulate traffic movement, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) City Srinagar Aijaz Ahmad said Wednesday.

“Vehicles coming from outside Srinagar will not be permitted to enter the city centre,” Ahmad told reporters while leading a traffic enforcement drive. “Concrete measures are being put in place to reduce congestion and ensure smoother movement in core areas.”

He said Sumo vehicles have been a major contributor to traffic snarls and that their movement will be restricted beyond Shergarhi Police Station. “This restriction is necessary to ease pressure on already congested roads,” he said.

Ahmad said traffic police are taking strict action against drivers operating vehicles without valid documents or driving licenses. “No violator will be spared under any circumstances,” he said.

He added that vehicles parked illegally are being towed and legal action is being initiated against the drivers concerned. “We are following a zero-tolerance approach,” he said.

The SSP said stunt biking and minors driving vehicles remain a focus area for enforcement. “Action has already been initiated against parents who allow their minor wards to drive two-wheelers or four-wheelers,” he said.

Ahmad said the traffic police will continue sustained enforcement drives across the city to ensure discipline on roads and maintain smooth vehicular movement in Srinagar.
