Ludhiana, Jan 22: The Ludhiana Improvement Trust is currently reviewing a proposal to utilize 1.05 acres of land in Rajguru Nagar for a residential housing project. The land, which was previously earmarked for a primary school, is being considered for a Change of Land Use (CLU) following administrative procedures.
A public notice was issued by the Trust last week to ensure transparency and gather community feedback. Residents have been provided a 30-day window to submit any objections or suggestions regarding the development of the site. This process follows initial government approval to explore the feasibility of the residential project.
The Public Action Committee (PAC) has submitted a formal response to the notice. Members of the committee mentioned that the land should remain designated for educational purposes to benefit local children. They noted that the original layout of the colony intended for a school to be built on this specific plot.
Committee members Kuldeep Khaira and Kapil Arora said that they are concerned about the adherence to building bylaws. They mentioned that the current regulations for the colony should be maintained. “How can a government agency violate the building bylaws and the rules made for the colony or the project?” they said. They further mentioned that they are considering legal options to address the matter.
Tarsem Singh Bhinder, Chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust, said the department is acting in response to feedback from some local residents. He noted that certain members of the community had expressed concerns regarding the establishment of a school in that specific area.
“The people of the area were objecting to the opening of the school,” Bhinder said. He mentioned that the public notice is a standard part of the process to ensure all voices are heard before a final decision is made. “Only after receiving the objections will it be seen whether the land should be reserved for a primary school or its CLU should be changed,” he said.
