New Delhi, Jan 26: Top constitutional authorities marked the 77th Republic Day by calling for a renewed commitment to the democratic principles and duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hoisted the national flag at his residence, describing the day as a symbol of the nation’s steadfastness and its journey toward progress.
The Speaker noted that the Constitution remains the largest written document of its kind and acts as a constant guide for the country. He mentioned that the adoption of this document nearly eight decades ago paved the way for a disciplined and value-based society.
“Republic Day is the day of resolve, determination and abiding by the decorum of the Constitution and taking the country forward,” Birla said while addressing the media.
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan also reached out to citizens, characterizing the anniversary as a celebration of India’s status as a vibrant republic built on the pillars of justice and liberty. He noted that the day serves as a tribute to the architects of the Constitution and a reminder of the responsibilities held by every citizen.
The Vice-President mentioned that the country’s progress in various sectors reflects the strength of its institutions and the hard work of its people. He further noted that these achievements are vital steps in the journey toward a developed nation by 2047.
“May this Republic Day inspire us all to strengthen unity, foster inclusiveness, and work with unwavering commitment for the progress and prosperity of our beloved Republic,” Radhakrishnan said.
The celebrations across the capital remained focused on the themes of national unity and the shared goal of achieving comprehensive development over the coming decades.
