Chandigarh, Jan 26: Residents across Punjab and Haryana faced another day of biting cold on Monday as temperatures continued to hover well below normal. Data from the weather department identified Bathinda in Punjab and Hisar in Haryana as the coldest spots in their respective states, with no immediate sign of relief from the prevailing winter conditions.
In Punjab, several districts reported bone-chilling nights, with Faridkot recording a low of 4.4°C and Mansa following closely at 5.1°C. The mercury in Hoshiarpur dropped to 5.8°C, while Patiala and Amritsar saw minimums of 5.6°C and 6.8°C. Ludhiana was slightly higher but still cold at 7.1°C.
“Bathinda and Hisar emerged as the coldest places in the two states,” a weather department official said. The official mentioned that the cold wave has been consistent over the past few days, affecting daily life and commute.
Chandigarh, serving as the joint capital for both states, saw the thermometer dip to 6.2°C. In Haryana, the situation was similarly harsh as Rohtak recorded a low of 3.8°C, making it one of the most affected areas in the state. Gurugram and Narnaul also braved extreme conditions with temperatures of 4.2°C and 4°C. Other Haryana towns including Karnal at 4.7°C and Bhiwani at 5°C remained under the grip of the cold, while Ambala recorded a minimum of 6.5°C.
