Amritsar, March 3: To safeguard the environmental and historical legacy of the Sikh Empire, the Akal Seva Foundation has initiated a comprehensive plantation campaign at the historic Ram Bagh garden. The drive focuses on the area surrounding the Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, combining heritage conservation with modern sustainability efforts.

The project commenced with the planting of various traditional and ornamental species, including neem, amla, peepal, and several varieties of roses. Foundation president Harpal Singh Randhawa stated that the initiative is being conducted in close coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). He affirmed that the ASI has provided formal permission to plant 10,000 saplings within the protected site to restore its original aesthetic appeal.

Beyond the palace grounds, the foundation is seeking further cooperation from local authorities. “After obtaining approval from the municipal corporation, we plan to plant an additional 10,000 heritage trees within Ram Bagh,” Randhawa declared. He maintained that the campaign is designed to protect centuries-old trees that have faced gradual decay over the years.

Social worker and environmentalist Sarabjit Singh Sonu affirmed that the group has already urged the district administration to adopt scientific conservation methods. He asserted that expert assessments and proper soil treatment are essential to prevent the further deterioration of the garden’s invaluable natural assets.
