New Delhi/Srinagar, March 3: The Indian Embassy in Tehran has launched an emergency operation to move Indian students to safer zones as regional hostilities intensify following military strikes by the United States and Israel. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) confirmed on Tuesday that students previously stationed in the Iranian capital have been transported via buses to Qom, a city located approximately 140km south of Tehran.

The relocation serves as a precautionary measure to protect the hundreds of Indian nationals, including many from Jammu and Kashmir, who were unable to leave before the conflict escalated. JKSA representatives in Srinagar stated that while all students are currently reported safe, a formal evacuation to India is the ultimate goal. They maintained that any repatriation process remains contingent on the reopening of regional airspace and the stability of the ground situation.

The development comes as anxious parents in the Valley appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the central government for immediate intervention. Families estimate that over 1,000 students are currently trapped in Iran. “The decision to relocate is a precautionary measure in view of the deteriorating security situation,” the JKSA affirmed, noting that they are in constant contact with the mission in Tehran.

Authorities stated that they are closely monitoring the evolving crisis. They asserted that diplomatic channels are being utilized to ensure the safety of the diaspora, while logistical plans for potential special flights are being prepared should the situation permit.
