Ludhiana, March 4: Tensions flared at Phullanwal Chowk on Tuesday night as a large crowd gathered to protest the death of a 24-year-old man killed in a collision with a speeding BMW. The victim, identified as Laalji Morya, a gardener and migrant from Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to a severe head injury following the late-night accident.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm while Morya was traveling home on his motorcycle. Witnesses stated that the luxury vehicle struck the motorcyclist near the crossing, leading to his fatal injuries. Following the crash, the victim’s family and local residents alleged that the police moved the involved vehicle to a nearby petrol pump rather than impounding it immediately.

Representatives of the protesting group asserted that the driver was initially apprehended by onlookers and handed over to the authorities. However, they maintained that the police subsequently allowed the suspect to leave. “The authorities allegedly pressed the victim’s family to reach a compromise,” a spokesperson for the protesters declared, adding that the driver is reportedly an influential individual.

The demonstrators blocked the road at Phullanwal Chowk after locating the damaged BMW at the petrol station. They declared that the sit-in would continue until a formal case is registered and the accused is placed under arrest. Protesters affirmed that the police initially withheld details regarding the vehicle’s ownership, which further fueled the public’s anger and demands for transparency.
