Chandigarh, March 4: The festival of colors was celebrated with traditional zeal and enthusiasm across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Wednesday. Residents throughout the region participated in the festivities by smearing “gulal,” splashing water balloons, and sharing traditional sweets such as “gujia” to mark the arrival of spring.

In the holy city of Anandpur Sahib, a massive influx of devotees gathered for the historic “Holla Mohalla” festival. Pilgrims offered prayers at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, maintaining the long-standing Sikh tradition associated with this time of year. Meanwhile, in urban centers, several hotels and resorts hosted rain dance parties and festive buffets for local revelers.

To ensure public safety, police departments in the twin states and the Union Territory implemented extensive security measures. “Foot and mobile patrolling was intensified in public areas to deter disorderly behaviour and ensure public safety,” a police officer stated. Authorities maintained checkpoints to monitor for reckless driving and various traffic violations, asserting that a zero-tolerance policy was in effect for hooliganism.

Leadership across the region extended their best wishes to the public. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria affirmed that the festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil. He maintained that the celebrations should strengthen social harmony and bring joy to every household.

Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh also shared a message of goodwill, noting that Holi reflects the nation’s rich cultural heritage. He declared that the festival represents a renewal of relationships and urged citizens to embrace a spirit of unity in diversity.
