Muktsar, March 7: The Kotbhai police have registered cases against 25 individuals from two opposing groups after a violent confrontation occurred over the leadership of a local gurdwara management committee. The incident, which took place in Bhundar village within the Gidderbaha Assembly segment, involved the sitting sarpanch and several others allegedly linked to the ruling party.
Muktsar Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Manmeet Singh Dhillon stated that a cross FIR was lodged against 18 members of one faction and seven from the rival group, along with multiple unidentified persons. He noted that the authorities have already rounded up five individuals in connection with the Friday clash.
The dispute centered on the presidency of the village gurdwara committee. “The clash erupted over the presidency of the village gurdwara management committee on Friday. Five persons have been rounded up so far,” the officer maintained while discussing the ongoing investigation.
Four people sustained injuries during the altercation inside the Gurdwara Baba Bhundar Sahib premises, including former sarpanch Sukhdev Singh. Medical reports indicate that three victims suffered pellet wounds while another was struck with a sharp weapon.
Police officials affirmed that they are currently verifying claims regarding gunfire during the riot. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for various offenses, including attempt to murder and rioting with deadly weapons, alongside charges under the Arms Act.
