Mohali, March 8: Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh raised a pressing concern in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Sunday regarding the persistent violation of parking norms by major private hospitals in the city.
The lawmaker asserted that prominent medical facilities, including Max, Grecian, and Mayo, have converted designated parking areas into commercial spaces, leading to significant traffic congestion in surrounding neighborhoods.
While addressing the house during the question hour, the MLA mentioned that this issue was originally brought to light during the 2024 budget session.
He noted that despite the department previously admitting to these legal infractions, no concrete enforcement has taken place over the last two years.
The legislator maintained that some hospitals have even encroached upon green spaces to facilitate illegal parking.
Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian responded by stating that fresh notices have been issued to the management of the concerned hospitals.
He directly said that the government is committed to rectifying the parking crisis and promised that the department would resolve the matter within two to three months. The minister declared that strict oversight would be implemented to ensure the public is no longer inconvenienced by these violations.
The MLA stated that he had previously written multiple letters to the department but had received no response until the current session.
He asserted that the lack of adequate parking infrastructure in Mohali is deteriorating and requested a definitive timeline for administrative action.
Minister Mundian affirmed that the current administration will prioritize the rule of law regarding urban planning and public safety.
