New Delhi, March 14:The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a nationwide advisory on Saturday, cautioning citizens against the hazardous practice of storing fuel in loose or inappropriate containers. The directive follows an incident at a retail outlet in Tamil Nadu, where the ministry confirmed that a petrol pump was suspended after allowing fuel to be dispensed into unsafe vessels.

Federal authorities stated that all petrol stations across the country maintain a surplus of petrol and diesel, dismissing concerns regarding potential shortages. The ministry affirmed that retail outlets have received strict instructions to adhere to safety guidelines, noting that any violations would result in immediate and severe disciplinary action.

“It has come to notice that at one retail outlet in Tamil Nadu, petrol was being taken in a loose container, which is unsafe and not advisable,” the ministry declared through its official communication channels.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, maintained that the domestic refining infrastructure is currently operating at full capacity. During an inter-ministerial briefing regarding developments in West Asia, Sharma asserted that the current stock levels are sufficient to meet the nation’s requirements without the need for additional imports.

“We produce enough petrol and diesel in the country according to our requirements,” Sharma stated, adding that there have been no credible reports of fuel dry-outs at any retail locations.
