15 Accused in AAP Youth Leader’s Abduction Case

Ludhiana, 19 October 2024: On Friday, local police registered a case against 15 persons for their alleged involvement in the abduction and assault of a youth leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), according to officials. The case stems from an investigation into the incident that occurred on October 9.

The accused have been identified as Sharoo Sharma, Kirat Ghuman, Aman Thakur, Rajvir Ghuman, Mannu Sharma, Sukh Haibowalia, Sachin, Karamjit Singh, Balwinder Singh, and Abhishek and Ricky Toor. Authorities noted that four of their accomplices remain unidentified.

According to the complainant, Sonu Kalyan, a resident of Gopal Nagar, he was chatting with friends outside his office after closing when Sharoo Sharma allegedly approached him and began to threaten him. Sharoo then left on a Honda Activa, only to return moments later with a group of armed men.

Sonu claims the assailants struck him with the handle of a pistol before abducting him and taking him to a secluded location where they continued to beat him. He reported that they also stole ₹15,000 and his mobile phone.

A first information report (FIR) has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 140(3) (kidnapping), 191(3) (rioting with a deadly weapon), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation), along with various sections of the Arms Act, including 25, 27, 54, and 59.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ram Krishan, who is overseeing the investigation, stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.
