CHANDIGARH, APRIL 26 — Aam Aadmi Party Punjab General Secretary Deepak Bali issued a strong condemnation on Saturday against the Rajya Sabha members who recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bali asserted that the lawmakers have a moral obligation to resign from their seats immediately, stating that their actions constitute a betrayal of the democratic mandate provided by the people of Punjab.
Through a social media statement, Bali maintained that those who abandon their party under external pressure cannot be viewed as anything other than traitors to the cause. He stated that the MPs were not elected by direct public vote but were appointed by National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann specifically to represent the interests of Punjab’s farmers, laborers, and traders in Parliament.
The General Secretary declared that instead of fulfilling their duty to advocate for the state, these individuals chose to align with a party that is actively working against democratic principles. He mentioned that if the defecting members possess any credibility, they should step down and seek a fresh mandate from the electorate in Punjab rather than holding onto positions granted by the AAP.
Bali affirmed that the Punjab government remains stable and unified under the leadership of Chief Minister Mann. He stated that the BJP’s attempts to destabilize the administration through such tactics would fail, as the citizens of Punjab will never accept leaders who succumb to the pressure of the central ruling party.
