SURREY, B.C. May 12— Two teenagers were shot and killed Sunday night in an underground parking lot in the Newton area, an incident authorities believe is tied to organized crime. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) stated that the victims, aged 16 and 18, appeared to be targeted as part of a violent gang war currently spanning British Columbia.
Surrey Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10 p.m. in the 7000-block of 133B Street. Officers arriving at the scene discovered both victims with fatal gunshot wounds. Although paramedics attempted life-saving measures, both individuals were pronounced dead at the location. While official identifications have not been released, the victims are suspected to be of Punjabi origin given the demographics of the neighborhood.
“This incident has left two families devastated,” stated IHIT spokesperson Sergeant Farida Fong. Investigators noted that a gray four-door sedan was discovered burning a short distance away shortly after the shooting. Police maintained that the vehicle was likely used by the assailants and set on fire to eliminate forensic evidence.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke expressed grave concern regarding the spike in local violence, noting the impact on the community’s sense of safety. Authorities have requested that anyone with dashcam footage from the area recorded between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. contact investigators immediately. No suspects have been taken into custody at this time.
