MOHALI, JUNE 4 — Retired IAS officer Sanjay Gupta officially assumed charge as the chairperson of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission on Wednesday during an official ceremony in Mohali.
Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond administered the oath of office and secrecy to Gupta at Vikas Bhawan. Gupta, a member of the 1988 IAS batch, previously held major administrative roles, including serving as the chief secretary of Himachal Pradesh. Sond stated that Gupta’s extensive background in governance would enhance the state’s power sector regulations.
“The Punjab Government, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to ensuring transparent, consumer-friendly and efficient power regulation in the state,” Sond affirmed following the swearing-in ceremony.
Gupta expressed gratitude to the administration for the appointment, noting that the commission will prioritize consumer interests while implementing the statutory provisions of the Electricity Act of 2003. He declared that his primary focus would involve minimizing unscheduled power outages and securing a stable electricity supply for residents.
“The desired results could be achieved by controlling transmission losses and resolving the issues,” Gupta asserted while detailing his operational priorities.
The event was attended by senior power department officials, including PSPCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg, PSERC members Ravinder Singh Saini and Ravi Kumar, and Director of Distribution Inderpal Singh.
